Youtube Series

Both a vlog and an art piece, the issue at hand is communication itself. This series is an ambivalent exploration of how media - video, photography, CGI, animation, text, emojis, etc. - function as a language. Simultaneously speaking to an exclusive art world and the expansive YouTube world, Robby hopes to unravel certain anxieties, tropes, and cultural expectations surrounding these forms of media that exist for artists and content creators all the same.

You can watch the first episode on this page, and continue watching more on the YouTube channel here.

Blanket Statement Grab Bag

A video advertising a project in which the artist emulates other independent creatives seeking commercial profits. Re-designing posters with either motivational or political phrases that vary widely in their moral alignment, their power is reduced to a mere product. Chosen at random, the project questions how much value and faith we put into aesthetics that are so far removed from their meaning.

Fort-Da

The title, Fort-Da, comes from Sigmund Freud’s story about a child’s game. Analogous to the child’s experience, the video diptych extends boomerangs, a feature native to Instagram’s stories, into a longer repetitious loop. Two seconds move forward and are lost, ‘fort’, but are captured and returned, ‘da’.

Immortal Beloved

Borrowing the format of an amateur vlog dedicated to its Youtube audience, Immortal Beloved reimagines the video as a romantic production for the singular recipient. A 19th century love letter written by Ludwig van Beethoven is recited by the artist in the role of an influencer giving thanks. Simultaneously speaking to the viewer, his phone, and his own reflection, the subject flirts with his mirror image in a Narcissusian curse.
